Did you know that the first conscious smile appears even in the second month of life? It is a reaction to what is most important for the child, that is the closeness of the parents, their warmth and care. From that moment on, a smile accompanies us throughout our lives in all joyful moments. It is with us both during successes, important events and during mundane everyday activities. Interestingly, this joyful wince is extremely universal and regardless of cultural differences, it remains the same all over the world;)
Remember, don’t give up on sharing your joy. If you feel a lack of courage during this activity, you should consider what is the reason. The satisfaction with our smile depends on many factors, such as a straight bite, full dentition, the right colour and size of the teeth, the appearance of the gums, and even the shape and size of the lips. Determining the exact cause and dealing with the resulting discomfort may turn out to be a challenge.
Don’t worry, you are not alone with your problem. Our team will be happy to help you diagnose the problem as well as create a beautiful and satisfying smile for you. During the first visit, the doctor will not only thoroughly examine the oral cavity, but also set up the entire treatment process, so that you can smile without restriction.
There is no one-size-fits-all way. Each of us is different and requires an individual approach, which is why it is so important to consult your problem with a dentist. Aesthetic dentistry is a dynamically developing branch of medicine and offers many methods to improve the quality of life of patients. Its scope includes highly aesthetic fillings, whitening, crowns and veneers. Improvement in smile satisfaction is also obtained thanks to orthodontic treatment, as well as surgical replacement of missing teeth with implants.
We know that you can feel lost in amount of ways to improve the aesthetics of a smile. Therefore, we encourage you to consult your issues. Dentist will be able to suggest and thoroughly explain all the methods that are best for you so that you can get a beautiful and satisfying smile.
The simplest and least invasive method of improving the aesthetics of our smile is to replace discoloured or unsatisfactory fillings. Often, a discoloured line appears on the border of the connection of the tooth tissues and the filling, which may indicate a loss of soundness of filling, replacing such a filling, in addition to improving its appearance, will help protect the tooth against caries. In case you don’t like the shape of the filling or the tooth, it is enough to make a new restoration or even composite veneers. However, it is a way of dealing with limited aesthetic disturbances.
Of course, in this case, the first thing to think about is whitening. Before we start whitening our teeth, all cavities should be treated, both carious and non-carious, i.e. chipped or worn teeth. Perfect hygiene is necessary during whitening, all residue on the teeth and gums must be cleaned, otherwise troublesome inflammation may occur. Ignoring the condition of our teeth before starting whitening can lead to serious complications, starting from tooth hypersensitivity, through pulpitis, and in extreme cases even tooth loss. Proper preparation and care will avoid such unpleasant situations.
In these cases, consider orthodontic or prosthetic treatment (i.e. veneers or crowns), or a combination of both. A number of orthodontic methods will allow us to take care of the correct positioning of the teeth and correct bite, while prosthetic restorations will correct significant discolouration or defects, and permanently protect the teeth.

read moreProbably many parents wonder when to visit a dentist’s office for the first time? If this question arose in your mind, it means that both you and your child are ready to get to know the dentist. At the outset, it is worth noting that the first visit is best when the child does not have milk teeth yet. It may shock you, but it is the best time to learn proper oral hygiene, consult your doctor about your doubts related to the future eruption of milk teeth and, most importantly, to familiarize your child with the presence at the dentist’s office. If the child already has deciduous or even permanent dentition and has never visited a dentist, you should also make an appointment to check the condition of the oral cavity.
Your child’s first visit to the dentist is very important. It must be accompanied by positive emotions, which is why it is often not combined with therapeutic intervention. It is the so-called adaptation visit, during which the child will get used to the new place. The little patient gets to know a new environment, and our goal is to have positive associations with it. Many new interesting stimuli are waiting for him in the office. Starting from the waiting room with a corner where the child can calm down, through the dentist’s office where the little patient is invited to the chair and the tools are presented in an accessible way, so that they do not cause unnecessary fear. During such a simulation of the visit, the patient may find out that the chair is very comfortable and that the Doctor is a new friend who additionally answers all bothering questions. At the end of the visit, the child receives a small gift, which additionally helps the patient to preserve positive memories of the visit.
An additional benefit is that the doctor familiarizes himself with the health of the child’s oral cavity. During such a visit, the dentist wastes no time and cleverly uses every opportunity when a child opens his mouth to carefully examine its condition. Thanks to this, you can plan further treatment and receive a set of recommendations for home oral hygiene.
It should be remembered that an adaptation visit is not a necessary element for a toddler to like the dentist. Some young patients feel very comfortable in the dentist’s chair from the very beginning and quickly begin to trust their doctor. Thanks to this, it is possible to start any therapy during the first visit. Each child is different and we are often unable to predict his reaction, so it is so important to show up for the appointment before anything worries us.
Regardless of the reason for which you come with your child, you should make sure that they have pleasant memories of the visit. So what can you do as a parent to help your child?
Try to stay cool. Little patients perfectly read our emotions, so it is worth taking care of the right atmosphere at the beginning. If you feel anxious about the visit yourself, first try to calm your own emotions so that the little patient will feel more confident.
Let the doctor contact your baby. It is extremely important for the little patient to trust him, thanks to which he will be able to feel safe in the dentist’s chair.
Try to avoid messages that suggest negative emotions, such as “don’t be afraid, nothing will hurt” as they can paradoxically backfire. Instead, we encourage you to focus on positive feelings. You can say: “The doctor came to help you”, “you are very polite and I am very proud of you”.
Build your child’s trust by providing accessible information about the course of the planned visit. You should be aware that little patients perceive the world from a slightly different perspective. Avoid the “nothing will be done” message as it can result in a loss of confidence in both the parent and the dentist. Even if, in our opinion, this is true, because the doctor will not conduct the treatment, for the child the mere presence in the dentist’s chair may be perceived as an intervention. A much better solution is to inform the child: “the doctor will touch a tooth”, “the doctor will count the teeth”.
First of all, we can talk a lot with the child about past or future visits, a pleasant atmosphere, interesting things or situations that happened in the office. It is worth explaining that doctors are there to help not only children, but also adults. You can do it both during your daily hygiene activities and by walking past your dentist’s website. Educational books that mention the dentist theme can also be helpful (you can find both of them in most bookstore and in our children’s corner). We should remember that if the visit is associated with something nice and interesting, both in our memories and in our stories, our child will not be afraid of the dentist!

read moreFirstly its is worth to briefly focus on tooth anatomy. Our teeth consist of a crown and roots. In the correct situation, in the oral cavity, we only see the crown, and the roots hide under the gum in the bone. Inside the crown there is a chamber that connects to the canals inside the roots. These spaces are not empty. Inside, there is a pulp, i.e. a tissue made of blood vessels, nerves and cells specific only for this place – odontoblasts. This pulp has numerous functions:
Endodontic treatment at the Smile and Care Medical Center begins with collecting a detailed history and conducting a complete examination of the oral cavity. The doctor then walks patient through the individual treatment plan, makes specific recommendations, and answers questions about the treatment. After the patient has received the full information, it is time to proceed to with the appropriate treatment.
Often patients wonder if it is painful. The endodontic treatment is performed under local anesthesia, so you should not be afraid of additional pain.
The aim of root canal treatment is to clean the entire tooth from bacteria, and in particular the root canal system. The dentist first cleans the tooth from all carious lesions, as they are the main habitat of bacteria. Before the root canal treatment, the doctor prepares the treatment area using a “cofferdam”. It is a coloured gum that is applied to the tooth and covers the entire mouth. It enables the isolation of the treated tooth from saliva, but also prevents the ingress of disinfectants into the oral cavity, improving the patient’s comfort during the visit.
The proper endodontic treatment begins with finding all canal openings and determining their length. The number of channels depends on the number of roots, but there are some exceptions. In the incisors and canines, respectively, one can expect one, occasionally two canals. In premolars, the presence of two canals is much more frequent, and there are also three canals. In contrast, four canals should be expected in molars.
Then the doctor cleans the canals using special files and disinfectant fluids, and when the canals are properly prepared, he fills them permanently with the appropriate material. A tooth treated in this way is prepared for the final restoration.
At the Smile and Care Medical Center, we pay great attention to quality and precision, each endodontic treatment is carried out using a microscope. Our doctors have at their disposal complete and modern equipment and high-quality dental materials. Dental chairs in our offices are equipped with tips dedicated to endodontic treatments and X-ray, which allows to maintain the highest standard of treatment and to assess the effects of work at each stage. In addition, to increase the precision of the procedure, the doctor has a computer tomography at his disposal, which enables treatment also in the most difficult cases.
Root canal treatment is performed primarily when there is inflammation or necrosis of the pulp filling the chamber and the canals. The most common cause of pulp inflammation is a significant loss in the tooth crown. The pulp, apart from the mechanical cover in the form of hard tooth tissues, has a limited ability to protect against bacteria. Prolonged infection with bacteria or their toxins can lead to increased inflammation. There is also a possibility of bacterial infection due to widespread inflammation of the gums, which is why regular inspection and professional cleaning of the surface of the teeth and gums from plaque is so important.
It happens that dental injuries can lead to the necessity of endodontic treatment. It is also carried out preventively, e.g. before prosthetic or surgical treatment, in which there is a high risk of pulp damage, which could lead to its subsequent necrosis and gangrenous decay.
First of all, the prognosis is adversely affected by the delay in starting treatment or the delay in continuing the treatment already started. This behavior spreads the infection and can expose you to serious complications, including bacterial infection of the kidneys and heart. In addition, despite the use of the latest technology, such as surgical microscopes and computer tomography, it happens that the anatomy of the root canal makes it impossible to clean it thoroughly. The canals of the teeth are very complicated in structure, often with numerous branches off the main canals. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to reach all canals mechanically, so we always pay attention to the use of an appropriate amount of disinfectants.
Currently, the only way to check whether all microscopic and deep canals have been cleaned are follow-up visits. During them, an X-ray examination is performed to assess the occurrence of inflammatory changes in the bone surrounding the treated roots. If the primary treatment fails, re-treatment may be considered. Although endodontic re-treatment is initially burdened with a higher risk of failure, performed by an experienced doctor gives a very good chance of therapeutic success and allows you to save the tooth from extraction.

The scope of prevention includes activities such as:
As we mentioned earlier, conservative dentistry, apart from preventing dental diseases, also deals with the treatment of existing problems.
The therapeutic procedures include:
Caries is a dental disease caused by bacteria that produce an acidic pH that destroys enamel. The carious process goes through the following stages. First, the acid formed causes white stains on the enamel, which is a symptom of enamel demineralization. In the next stage, the enamel is irreversibly damaged. Enamel loss is a gateway to dentin infection, a tissue that is softer and more susceptible to bacteria than enamel. Spreading caries takes up more and more of the tooth, eventually reaching the dental pulp as well. At this stage, the only way to preserve the tooth is endodontic treatment.
Caries has a bacterial etiology, which is why it is so important to prevent colonization and the development of cariogenic bacteria in the oral cavity. You should be aware that sharing meals that you have already started, licking babies’ teats, and kissing can all contribute to the transmission of bacteria. In addition, our diet is not without significance. The sugar available in meals promotes the growth of bacteria and is converted into acids that destroy the enamel. Proper oral hygiene is also very important in the context of the development of caries. Poor hygiene, including inadequate brushing technique, has a large impact on the development of plaque, which, if not removed early enough, turns into tartar. Both plaque and tartar create ideal conditions for bacteria, promoting the formation of caries.
Prevention is the most important thing in the fight against caries. Adequate oral hygiene is key to caries prevention. It is important not only to clean your teeth and mouth properly and regularly, but also when tartar appears, go to the dentist’s office for professional hygiene treatment. Additionally, in order to avoid tooth decay, you should eliminate or at least reduce the amount of sugar in your diet. We should also take care not to pass on cariogenic bacteria. This is important for young children who, after birth, do not have cariogenic bacteria in their mouth, and contact with the saliva of adults may cause colonization with unwanted bacteria.
If, despite our efforts, caries has developed, we should immediately visit a dentist. Treatment depends on the stage of caries development.
In the case of demineralization changes, observation, frequent checks and the use of fluoride preparations may be sufficient.
In more advanced cases, it is necessary to prepare a carious cavity by mechanically removing the tooth tissues affected by caries (so-called drilling). You should not be afraid of discomfort, because the treatment is performed under local anesthesia. After careful preparation of the lesion, we make a composite filling to rebuild the lost tooth tissue.
In some cases, when the disease process is advanced and the carious lesions cover the pulp, endodontic treatment is necessary (more information in the article: “Endodontics or colloquially root canal treatment”). Unfortunately, it happens that the damage to the tooth is so advanced that it is necessary to remove it.
Filling iis made of a composite in order to rebuild the lost tooth tissue, both through the carious process and after an injury. Using the composite, we can also model the shape of our teeth. Unfortunately, not in all cases such a reconstruction is sufficient and often a prosthetic reconstruction (crowns, veneers) is necessary to protect and strengthen the teeth.
In order to make a perfect filling, it is necessary to have the appropriate knowledge and experience of a doctor, who must allocate the right amount of time and high-quality materials to make a highly aesthetic filling. A high precision is also necessary, which can be achieved by the use of a microscope. At the Smile and Care Medical Center, we make sure that each filling is a small work of art.
t is very important to remember about regular visits to the dentist, even if we do not experience disturbing symptoms. Appropriately frequent checks will allow us to avoid the development of caries or to diagnose it at a very early stage. Additionally, during check-up visits, you can consult your doubts and receive instructions on proper oral hygiene. Professional hygienisation is also important when tartar begins to form. All disturbing symptoms should lead us to an earlier visit to the dentist, such as: stains on the teeth or changes in their color, toothache with or without food, hypersensitivity, pain or bleeding of the gums. If you experience any of the above symptoms, don’t wait and make an appointment as soon as possible.
